Business Time Back — frequently asked questions
What it is, how it differs from time tracking, how it treats privacy, and who it is for.
What is Business Time Back?
Business Time Back is a workforce time-intelligence tool from Phronesis Labs. It shows teams where their working hours go across meetings, email, reporting, coordination, and administrative work, then helps them plan how to recover time for higher-value work. It works from quick self-estimates, not activity monitoring.
How is it different from time tracking?
Time trackers record what already happened, often by monitoring activity or requiring people to log hours. Business Time Back starts from quick self-estimates by task and role, then focuses on what time is recoverable and which single change to make first. It is forward-looking planning, not a timesheet or a surveillance log. See Business Time Back vs. time tracking.
Does Business Time Back monitor employees?
No. It does not track activity, log keystrokes, or capture screens. It works entirely from self-reported estimates, and individual responses aggregate into a team-level view rather than surfacing as a per-person scorecard.
What does ‘recoverable hours’ mean?
Recoverable hours are an estimate of time spent on tasks that could be reduced or streamlined, based on a curated task library and workforce model. It is a directional signal of opportunity, not a promise those hours vanish. Whether recovered time becomes added capacity or becomes cuts is a leadership choice the tool makes visible.
How long does it take to set up?
Each person answers a short set of estimates for their role in a few minutes. There is no integration to install and no build step; a team can get a first leadership view the same day.
Is our data private?
Business Time Back works from self-reported estimates rather than monitored activity, and the individual inputs roll up into an aggregate view. It is designed to inform a plan, not to profile individuals.
Who is it for?
Any team that loses hours to repeatable, language-heavy work: sales, customer support, operations, engineering, marketing, and the managers who lead them. It is most useful where status updates, inboxes, reporting, scheduling, and coordination eat into higher-value work.
Will it guarantee a number of hours saved?
No. The estimates identify and rank opportunities; they do not guarantee a specific number of hours saved. The point is to show where a change would return the most time and to help you plan the first one.
